London Raiders made it three wins in a row with success over Streatham at Lee Valley on Saturday.
Buoyed by their fine four-point weekend following victories over Peterborough and MK Thunder, Raiders took the lead inside five minutes as Olegs Lascenko found the net.
And an interference penalty against former Raider Brandon Miles allowed the home side to double their lead on the power play with just over 10 minutes gone, as Marek Nahlik converted Lascenko’s pass.
Streatham coach Jeremy Cornish called a timeout to settle his side, who saw Euan King turn aside all 14 shots that came his way during the opening period to preserve the 2-0 Raiders lead.
The gloves came off early in the middle session when Brandon Ayliffe was left on the ice by a hit from James Warman, who was then challenged by Raiders defenceman John Connolly.
Both players received a total of six minutes in penalties and Raiders went 3-0 up before their return as Ollie Baldock scored from Juraj Huska’s pass.
Raiders dominated the shot count 17-5 in the second period and added a fourth towards the end of the session as Lascenko potted his second goal of the game.
King’s shutout hopes were ended in the 49th minute by Michael Farn, who scored again less than five minutes later on a Streatham power play after Baldock was binned for tripping.
But Raiders, with Sam Roberts making his 100th appearance, held on comfortably to earn their first triumph over Cornish’s men in four meetings this season and give JJ McGrath a winning send-off in his final appearance for the club before a move to Canada.
Raiders return to action next weekend with trips to Swindon and Basingstoke.
